If a piece of coal from a coal truck broke the windshield of my car while driving are they responsible?

I was driving and a piece of coal flew out of a coal truck and broke my windshield. I only have liability on my truck and was wondering if the coal truck company would pay to have it fixed. I have heard that they do but I'm not sure. Does anyone know?

nope, its your fault because you were driving dangerously close....unless the truck didnt have a sticker saying stay back x amount of feet...also, many of them say not liable for debris....if u know the company that owns the truck, give em a call, it cant hurt...good luck!

Fly Fishing Lines – What’s Important?

Fly lines are an extremely key piece in your fly fishing set-up. Choosing a good fly line should be just as important as choosing your rod, if want to be able to learn to fly fish quickly. After all it is your fly line that actually does most of the fishing (your rod only gets your line onto the water!). The good news is there are only a few things you need to get right when selecting a fly line. The key features of a fly line that you need to consider are highlighted in this article.

Fly Line Weight

Fly line weight technically refers to how heavy the first 30 foot of the fly line is, in grams. Luckily a few of the manufacturers got together, a number of years back, and decided on a simple weighting system (similar to rods) that ranges from 1-15. A rule of thumb is that you should match your fly line to your rod weight, so if you are using a 5 weight rod, a 5 weight line should suit that rod nicely. Of course you can always ‘over-line’ your rod by putting a 1 weight heavier line on it (put a 6 weight line no a 5 weight rod). This will assist with loading the rod and will help you to generate line speed quicker, a key factor in learning how to fly fish.

Fly Line Taper

Fly line taper is a slightly more confusing feature for beginners to understand. The easiest way to think of taper is to think of it as the profile of the fly line, how it looks when viewing it end to end. There are a number of different tapers, the four key ones are level taper, double taper, weight forward taper and shooting taper. Each of these tapers is designed to assist with casting the line and achieving the desired casting result in some way, for example: generate faster line speed, allow for a more delicate presentation. The most popular taper is the weight forward taper. These line have a little more weight and width in the first section of the fly line, for most anglers these lines will be the easiest to cast well.

Fly Line Density

Essentially, fly lines either float on top of the water, or sink in the water – this is a nice way to look at density. To look at this in more detail, fly lines are generally broken down into the following densities: floating, sink tip, intermediate, sinking, fast sinking. This is where you really need to consider the type of fishing you’ll be doing and what type of fly line is suitable for that type of fishing. The floating fly line, for example, is used for dry fly and nymph fishing, where it is paramount that the fly line floats on the water. A sinking line, on the other hand, is designed to sink in the water you are fishing – taking with it your flies which are attached to the end of the fly line.

Fly Line Colour

Fly line colour is probably the least important of the features to get right. Fly lines tend to come in all sorts of colours and often it comes down to personal preference. Some people think that buying a ‘camouflage’ fly line is important (especially in clear conditions with spooky fish) while others believe that the fish will see the line no matter what colour it is. As a rule of thumb, generally buy dark coloured sinking line and floating lines of earthy colours – provided you can still see them on the water.

The above ‘criteria’ are the things you need to be aware of when selecting a fly line. The types of fish, water and areas you are fishing will determine the combination of fly line features that you need. Fly Fishing Gear- Top 10 Essentials For Fly Fishing

With an apparently unending array of gear and gadgets, fly fishing seems to be a varied and interesting sport. Most of the available options could be confusing to anyone who is new to Fly fishing. Anyone with a flair for fishing should know the important accessories about it. The 10 common pieces concerning fly fishing gear include a reel, fly fishing rod, line, files, leader, waders, net, clippers, vest and sunglasses.

Fly fishing rod

This rod is one of the mandatory equipments for fly fishing. These rods are usually different when compared to regular and conventional fishing rods and are designed in unique manner. It would allow casting the fly and fly line. Rods today are often constructed using types of graphite compounds. Many of the rods are still structured from bamboo or fiberglass. The Fly rods are usually categorized based upon weights of line they are structured to be used with.

Reels

The Fly fishing reels essentially, are less significant than the rods. Unlike conventional fishing, along with fly fishing one does not reel in the fish. Line

The Fly fishing line has been specially designed for such style of fishing. Fly fishing line is considerably heavy compared to traditional fishing line. It is often tapered and designed for floating. Some lines are designed to sink, though. Some anglers attach backer line in between fly fishing line and reel so as to increase the line available.

Leader

The leader is a monofilament, clear line which attaches to the extreme end of fly fishing line. Additionally, the fly is tied to the leader at the end. This leader is further tapered down into a narrow diameter towards the forward end. Leader matches more with the traditional fishing line.

The Flies

They are available in huge assortments of designs and styles. The dry flies are designed so that they float up in the water, nymphs and wet flies are structured for submerging, and few other flies are made to partially submerge. Flies could also be implied as attractive or imitative. Imitative flies are deliberated to imitate or manifest like a specific insect. On the other hand, attractive flies are structured to attract the fists not looking towards any specific natural food source.

The Waders

Waders are optional when you fish in warm water. But a few anglers go fly fishing in cold water streams to find waders enormously essential. Some popular wader styles currently include waders with waterproof lining and neoprene waders. Neoprene waders work very well in the cold water stream and serve in keeping the angler warm. The waders having a waterproof lining prove to be convenient and breathable when one goes hiking flanking a stream.

Net

A net is essential equipment for fly fishing. As fly fishing is often done standing in the waters, it could be not very easy to hunt a fish without good nets. Nets always have a hook attached. People watch fly fishing on television and they think that beginner fly fishing must be very easy because it looks like that on television. First of all what you are watching on television is not beginner fly fishing, that is fly fishing being done by professionals with years of experience who have worked on and perfected techniques that take years and years to get right.

Secondly it is television and the chances that everything went that well in the first take are probably pretty slim. Television has a way of dressing things up so that it all looks so appealing and easy to everyone at home and this is where this notion that beginner fly fishing is so easy comes from. Well, beginner fly fishing isn't easy and here are some valuable tips you will need to get you started.

For equipment you need a pole, a reel, special fly fishing line, and a fly. Many people make their biggest mistake with beginner fly fishing at the line. Fly fishing line is thicker and heavier that standard fishing line for a couple of reasons. The first reason is that you do not use sinkers or lures in fly fishing so there is nothing to weigh the line down. Therefore the line itself needs to be heavy so you can fly cast it properly. It is also thicker because you need to cast with accuracy and that is hard to do with lighter line. So make sure that for your beginner fly fishing expedition you get the proper supplies and tools to get the job done.

Don't Skimp

Many people will attack beginner fly fishing with a mind to catch fish and no mind on the equipment they will use to get the job done. Never skimp on your equipment because if you buy cheap equipment and it fails on you at the beginning of your trip then you have a long fishing trip ahead of you. Get the best reel you can afford and the best pole you can find. Fly fishing line is heavier than standard fishing line because we do not use a heavy lure in fly fishing and so the line needs to create its own weight. Next Up, Getting The Fish

Ok now that we have the proper line for fly fishing for underachievers we need to now learn how to properly cast. First you tie the fly on to the end of the line being careful not to poke yourself with the hook. Now that's ok, just slowly pull the hook out of your thumb and get into the first aid kit and put a band-aid on to stop the bleeding. Once the hook and fly is on the line it is time to learn how to properly cast. This is where fly fishing for underachievers can become risky because underachievers have lousy balance and this can be a problem. So slowly stand up in the boat and raise your fly fishing pole over your head ready to, oh my, well now slowly climb back into the boat and have a seat with a towel to dry off.

Once you have dried off it is time to try casting again so grab your fly fishing pole and stand up. What's that? Lost the pole when you fell in to the water, eh? Well that is all the time we have today for fly fishing for underachievers and I certainly hope you enjoyed today's lesson and learned absolutely nothing from it.

Heading onto the water with a box of flies and a good quality rod can be the start of a great day of fishing. However, you want to make sure the fly fishing lines on the reel are designed for the type of fishing you will be doing. Similar to fly fishing rod, fly fishing lines are rated by weight and the larger the fish you target, the larger the line you will need to withstand the challenge the larger species will present when hooked.

Most fly fishing lines are categorized by weight with one through five being exceptionally light for use with light rods for short, accurate casting. They are ideal for small rivers and streams where the accuracy of fly placement is more important than the distance of the cast. They can also be used for casting under obstacles such as tree limbs or shrubs. A short rod, about eight or nine feet can also provide excellent casting accuracy when used with light fly fishing lines.

For the beginning, fly fishing lines with a weight between six and nine are good for casting further, where obstacles are few and far between. Used with a medium strength fly rod, these fly fishing lines can be snet further, but will have less accuracy than the lighter lines have.

Heavier Lines Needed For Heavier Fish

While stories abound about huge fish being harvested on light tackle, to guard against telling stories about the one that got away, heavier lines will be needed for heavier fish. Fly fishing lines weighted between 10 and 15 are typically used for larger game fish between 40 and 150 pounds, but they also require larger reels on which the line can be stored.

Many of the original fly fishing lines were made of cotton, but it tends to rot quickly after becoming wet. Most of today's fly fishing lines are coated in plastic to protect it from the elements. The reels are also larger to accommodate not only the line but the leader and the backing and depending on where you are fishing, they can add upwards of 300-yards to the line on the reel.

Just as the rod and reel should be matched to the type of fishing, fly fishing lines must be matched to the rod as well. Lighter rods for accurate casting will require lighter lines and conversely, larger, heavier fly fishing rods will need heavier lines in order to be cast by the heaver rods.

Seasoned fly fishermen usually say the same thing when confronted on the question of how to fly fish – get your casting technique down for maximum fish catching. Unlike regular rod and reel fishing where the weight at the end of the line is what helps the line exit the reel, it is the weight of the fly fishing line itself which brings the fly lure right to the fish.

Setting Up for Practice

Before heading to a fishing hole, you will want to practice on how to fly fish cast in a large grassy or dirt packed area. Cement and asphalt are not great surfaces to practice your casting as the rough surfaces could ruin your fishing line. Tie a bright piece of colored yard at the end of your line or even a brightly colored lure so that you can see what your fly is doing during the process.

After tying the yarn or fly onto the line, the next step in learning how to fly fish is to pull out about 20-25 feet of line out of the fly reel and lay it on the grassy area next to you. You need this amount of “play” in the line so that you have something to negotiate lightly through the water.

Get a Grip

Learning to hold the fishing rod in preparation for casting out the line is the next step in how to fly fish. While the rod is in your hand, put your thumb on the top of the rod grip and keep it on the top as this provides you with better accuracy as well as force in your cast. Also, the butt of the rod should be perpendicular to your wrist and forearm and kept under.

Make sure the line is through your rod in learning how to fly fish and then pull about 20 feet of it and place it on the ground to the right hand side. Holding your rod in a grip, the opposite hand grasps the extended line tightly for better casting momentum. Once you are comfortable in this phase, you can start to experiment with different casting when learning how to fly fish.

The Cast

The actual cast itself is next for the lesson on how to fly fish and you must use efficient movements for a successful turn. Flick the rod back a bit to a 45 degree angle, which is about the 2:00 o'clock position and then hold it. This causes an abrupt stop at 45 degree angle mark so your fishing line will shoot backwards.

Next on the how to fly fish list is flicking your wrist back to the 2 p.m. position as this action will cause the fishing line to fly forward out in front of you. If you did everything correctly, the fishing line would have straightened out and landed with ease rather than a plop. If your tied fly on the end of your fishing line made a distinct straight down dive into the water, then you did not learn how to fly fish properly. The line should extend out into the water and with a tugging motion, you learn to lightly tug on the line so that the fly appears to be skipping across the water rather than sinking in it. It takes patience and plenty of time to effectively learn how to fly fish, so unless you are gifted, don't be surprised that you do not catch anything the first few fly fishing trips.
