What do I say in a letter to someone who's in Boot Camp? What are some things I can send him?

I have a friend who just went to boot camp and I want to write him letters. Has anyone ever been to boot camp? And what kind of things made you feel better? Any tips i can send him to help him get by his training? or things i can send him? i heard sticks of gum was good to send....he's in the Army by the way.

Let him know how everyone is doing and that you all miss him. That will brighten his day considering the tough time he's going through right now. As for sending him things... it isn't allowed. All it will do is get him smoked (that's where they work him out by himself until he can't do anymore i.e. muscle failure). Just send letters and that's it... and make sure the letters are as positive and caring as possible.

Teen boot camps are correctional programs for delinquent youth in a military-style environment. What are the alternatives? Youth who need some form of treatment care require an individualized approach that takes their strengths and needs into account. Programs and policies should be family-centered, including the family in all decision making about a child, as well as culturally and developmentally appropriate. Research has shown that small, family-centered programs are more effective than boot camps in the long term.
