Where is the one that got away?

I was fishing in the weedy backwater of a lake yesterday when I got a big bite next to some lilypads. I began reeling in and got to see the head of a very big bass. Unfortunately, my line snapped and the fish got free just a few steps away from me.
I went for another pole and went back to the same spot and fished it for 2 hours with no other bites.

My question is: In a case like this does the fish go back to the area it was in when it took the bait or does it just fly off to another locale. Is it worth it to fish the same area in the hope of finding the fish again?
I was using a 7inch fake worm.

This happened @ Winchester lake in Ct.
**It was a bass

I've caught some nice bass out of that lake.......
how well did you set the hook? give it a little time to spit the hook out or fall out.....

there is no guarantee that he will be back but keep in mind the structure/weed-bed area and look for similar structure
